Taharat — ritual purity — is the foundational chapter of Shia fiqh. It covers wudu, ghusl (janabat, hayd, mass al-mayyit), tayammum, the categories of najasah (impurities) and the mutahirat (purifying agents), and the prerequisite conditions for prayer and other acts of worship.
Primary sources include Shaykh al-Saduq's Man La Yahduruhu al-Faqih, Shaykh al-Tusi's Tahdhib al-Ahkam, and the Tawdih al-Masail of every contemporary Marja al-Taqlid.
