Sahifa Sajjadiya

Sahifa Sajjadiya — the “Psalms of the House of Muhammad” — is the canonical collection of supplications composed by Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-Abidin (peace be upon him). The work comprises fifty-four chapters covering repentance, gratitude, intercession, protection, and nearness to God. About al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya

al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya — sometimes called the Psalter of the House of Muhammad — is a collection of fifty-four supplications composed by Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-Abidin (a.s.), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the fourth Imam. It stands with Nahj al-Balagha as one of the foundational texts of Shia spiritual literature.

The supplications cover repentance, gratitude, intercession, protection, ethical refinement, parents and family, neighbours, and the practical demands of daily life. Each is a model of Arabic eloquence and spiritual depth.

At present the catalogue of chapters is published; the full Arabic text, Urdu and English translations, and transliteration are being added chapter-by-chapter under scholarly review.

Frequently asked questions

  • Who is the author?
Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-Abidin (a.s.) (38–95 AH / 658–712 CE), the only male child of Imam Husayn (a.s.) to survive Karbala. His supplications are a living testimony to the spiritual constancy of that generation.
  • How many supplications does the work contain?
The canonical Sahifa contains fifty-four. Later scholars have transmitted further supplications attributed to the Imam (a.s.) in supplementary collections — al-Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya al-Thaniya and others.
  • Is it specifically a Ramadan text?
No. Most supplications are not tied to a particular day and can be recited year-round. A few are occasion-specific — a supplication for daily mornings, one for evenings, one for breaking the fast — and the recommended timing will be noted on each chapter's page.
