A Yemeni source has told the Saba news agency that Saudi media claims about a Yemeni missile striking a mosque are baseless. According to the source, the damage was caused by a Saudi air defence missile during a failed attempt to intercept Yemeni missiles. "The traces left by Yemeni missiles are completely clear. What Saudi Arabia claims is the result of one of its own air defence missiles during a failed attempt to intercept Yemeni missiles," the source said.
The source added that amid significant advances by Yemeni forces inside Yemen against Saudi mercenaries, Riyadh's media circles are seeking to overshadow Sanaa's achievements with such claims. The statement did not provide further details on the location or timing of the incident.
Earlier, Yemeni military spokesman Yahya Saree announced that weapons depots and operations rooms at the Saudi military base in Sharurah were targeted. Saree said the operation used ballistic missiles and drones. The base is located in southern Saudi Arabia, near the border with Yemen.
The exchange of statements comes amid ongoing military operations between Yemeni forces and Saudi-led coalition forces. The conflict has been ongoing for several years, with both sides frequently issuing claims about attacks and their outcomes. The source's remarks to Saba news agency are the latest in a series of competing narratives about military actions in the region.
According to Mehr News, the Yemeni source's statement challenges the Saudi account of the mosque incident, highlighting the information war accompanying the physical conflict. The report by Mehr News added that the source described the Saudi claims as an attempt to divert attention from Yemeni military gains.
