Yemen's armed forces announced on Wednesday that they carried out three operations using ballistic and cruise missiles and drones against targets inside Saudi Arabia, saying the strikes hit Riyadh's King Khalid airport, the Aramco refinery in Rabigh and Abha airport.
Military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement that the first operation targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and disrupted flights there. The second operation struck the Aramco refinery in Rabigh, causing a fire at the site, he said. The third operation, according to Saree, targeted Abha airport, Khamis Mushait base, the Akfa camp in the Asir region, and other positions in Najran and Jizan.
Saree described the operations as a response to what he called Saudi aggression against Yemen, which he said had included 60 airstrikes and missile attacks over the previous 24 hours. He said the Saudi attacks targeted Sanaa and the provinces of Jawf, Taiz, Hajjah, Saada and Marib, and resulted in the killing and injury of civilians, including women and children. According to Saree, the total number of Saudi airstrikes and missile attacks since the current escalation began has reached 1,576.
The spokesman warned all international airlines using Saudi airspace to reconsider their flights, saying that Saudi airspace, with the exception of the airspace over Mecca and Medina, would be a scene of Yemeni operations. He said Yemeni forces would bear no responsibility for the consequences of ignoring the warning. Saree added that Yemeni forces possess the capabilities and means to confront the escalation, that they were prepared for such a day, and that the battlefield would determine the outcome.
The announcement follows a period of intensified military activity between the two sides. There was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities on the Yemeni claims. The report by Mehr News did not provide independently verified details on the extent of damage or casualties at the targeted sites.
