Xi Jinping sends message to 2026 Global Governance Forum in Xiongan

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message to the 2026 Global Governance Forum, which opened in Xiongan New Area in north China's Hebei Province, according to the state news agency Xinhua. In the message, Xi said the world is undergoing accelerated transformation unseen in a century, and that the deficits in peace, development, security and governance are growing rather than diminishing.

Xi stated that he had put forward the Global Governance Initiative (GGI) to promote the building of a more just and equitable global governance system and a better world. He said China stands ready to work with all parties to uphold a vision of global governance featuring extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, to pool strength through confidence-building and to tackle challenges through cooperation.

The Chinese president called for efforts to promote the implementation of the GGI in order to inject more certainty and positive energy into what he described as a world of turbulence and transformation, and to jointly move toward a community with a shared future for humanity.

The forum is hosted by the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs and carries the theme "Rebuilding Confidence and Cooperation: Reforming and Improving Global Governance in a Transforming World." It opened on the same day the message was sent, Xinhua reported.

The message did not provide further details on specific policy measures or the participants attending the forum. According to Xinhua, the event is being held in Xiongan New Area, a development zone in Hebei Province that China has promoted as a new administrative and innovation hub.
