Iranian spokesman Baghaei rejects US narrative on sanctions as hypocritical

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei has dismissed the United States' narrative on its measures against Iran as naive and hypocritical, saying Washington continues to treat the world as though nations lack historical memory or analytical capability.

In a post on the social media platform X, Baghaei wrote that Washington "still seems to assume that nations have neither memory nor the capacity for critical thought." He added that it "treats the world as if it were Pluribus: a hive in which minds are expected to switch off, eyes lock onto Washington's lips, and its narrative is swallowed whole." The remarks were reported by Mehr News.

Baghaei drew a contrast between the broad impact of economic sanctions and what he described as trivial diplomatic restrictions. "On one side stands a brutal economic war, deliberately designed to inflict maximum pain and suffering on every Iranian citizen. On the other stands the theatrical announcement of measures to stop Iranian officials from supposedly shopping at an American wholesale club," he said.

The spokesman concluded by condemning the rhetoric as superficial, noting that celebrating the "sanctioning of an entire nation's livelihood" while issuing solemn statements over a "store membership card" exposes what he called the flawed mindset behind Washington's policies against Iran.

The statement comes amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington over US sanctions, which Iran has repeatedly described as economic terrorism. The original report by Mehr News carried the publisher's topic keywords of Donald Trump, US economic terrorism and US sanctions, indicating the context of the US administration's pressure campaign against Iran.

According to Mehr News, Baghaei's comments were made in a post on X and focused on rejecting the US portrayal of its measures, arguing that the international community does not accept Washington's framing of the sanctions regime.
