Oman says Persian Gulf security impossible without Iran's participation

Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr al-Busaidi said on Monday that security in the Persian Gulf is not possible without Iran's participation, criticizing US policies toward Iran. He stated that the US government undermines efforts to achieve peace by portraying Iran as a security threat.

The remarks were made during a phone call on October 14 between Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart, according to Mehr News Agency (MNA). The two diplomats discussed the latest regional developments, including the situation in Yemen.

Al-Busaidi's comments come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, with Washington maintaining a significant military presence in the Persian Gulf and enforcing sanctions on Iran. Oman has often played a mediating role in regional conflicts and has maintained cordial relations with Iran.

The Omani foreign minister's emphasis on Iran's inclusion in regional security arrangements reflects a stance that contrasts with US efforts to isolate Iran. The phone call also covered bilateral ties and issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil shipments.

According to Mehr News, the discussion between Araghchi and al-Busaidi underscored the importance of regional dialogue and cooperation to ensure stability in the Persian Gulf.
