Russian envoy accuses West of violating radiation safety agreements over Ukraine support

Russian Ambassador Rodion Miroshnik stated in an interview with TASS that Western countries are violating international agreements on peaceful nuclear energy and radiation safety by supporting Ukraine. He said that these agreements were signed by nuclear-armed states and that those countries are active participants in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Miroshnik cited the situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant as an example. He noted that the Ukrainian side denied IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi the opportunity to visit the plant, saying they could not provide security for him. According to Miroshnik, Russia provided security guarantees, but Ukraine failed to guarantee that it would not deliver strikes, leading to the cancellation of the visit as per protocol.

The Zaporozhye NPP is located on the shores of the Kakhovka Reservoir in Energodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, with six power units capable of producing a combined 6 GW of electricity.

According to Mehr News, Miroshnik made these remarks in an interview with TASS, highlighting ongoing tensions over nuclear safety in the conflict zone.
