Iran FM Spokesman Calls US Policy 'Pure Parody' Over Sanctions

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has sharply criticized the United States' latest sanctions campaign against Iran, describing Washington's policy as having reached "pure parody." In a post on his X account on Thursday, Baghaei responded to the US administration's moves to advance what he called "economic terrorism" against the Iranian nation.

Baghaei pointed out that the US has turned to Bahrain, a country with virtually no meaningful economic exchange with Iran, to prove that its "coalition" is working. He also noted that Washington has "stopped" Iranian sports and academic exchanges that had already been effectively dead for years. "It is sanctioning the already sanctioned and calling the empty space a coalition," he underlined.

The comments came after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a new wave of sanctions against Iran under what Washington has called "Operation Economic Outcast." Bessent said the campaign was aimed at Iran's financial networks worldwide and warned that countries and entities maintaining trade ties with Tehran could face secondary penalties.

According to the announcement, the United States has identified entities dealing with Iran and will give them deadlines to cut ties or risk exclusion from the US dollar system. The move is part of a broader US strategy to isolate Iran economically, which Tehran has consistently condemned as illegal and inhumane.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that such sanctions will not force Iran to change its policies and that the country will continue to resist external pressure. The latest remarks by Baghaei reflect Tehran's frustration with what it sees as a contradictory and ineffective US approach.

According to Mehr News, the report was published on their website, and the details were provided by the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman.
