Spanish PM says war on Iran cost Europe 112 billion dollars

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the war on Iran has cost Europe 112 billion dollars, arguing that those who opposed the conflict had been correct in their warnings about its economic consequences. In a post on X cited by Middle East Eye, Sanchez wrote that those who raised their voices against the war were right when they said no to war, adding that they knew ordinary people would end up paying the bill.

Sanchez linked the economic toll of the conflict to domestic measures in Spain, saying that is why the country has ratified in Congress a social shield of more than 12 billion euros, equivalent to about 13.4 billion dollars, to protect citizens and the affected sectors. Spain's parliament had approved the package worth more than 12 billion euros to protect the affected sectors and also to protect citizens who use their cars.

Calling for an end to the conflict, Sanchez said it is now time to put an end to this disaster. The remarks place the Spanish premier among European leaders who have publicly criticised the war and highlighted its financial impact on the continent.
