TEHRAN, Jun. 10 (MNA) – An MQ-9 Reaper drone was hit by IRGC air defence fire and destroyed over the town of Jam in southern Iran on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Bushehr Province, a coastal region along the Persian Gulf. The drone, operated by the United States, was intercepted by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) air defense units. No further details were immediately provided regarding the drone's mission or the circumstances leading to its downing.
The MQ-9 Reaper is a remotely piloted aircraft used primarily for surveillance and strike missions. This is not the first time Iran has claimed to have downed US drones; in June 2019, Iran shot down a US RQ-4A Global Hawk drone near the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Mehr News Agency, the IRGC confirmed the interception and destruction of the drone. The report did not mention any casualties or damage on the ground. The US military has not yet commented on the incident.
