SaveVance says progress made in US-Iran talks, cites good conversations
US Vice President JD Vance said on Monday that Washington has held a number of good conversations with Iran and that some progress has been made, according to Mehr News Agency. Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, Vance said he had just spoken with President Donald Trump about the talks.
"Well, we've had a number of good conversations with the Iranians. I actually just spoke with the president of the United States [Donald Trump]," Vance told reporters. "We've certainly made some progress. We'll see if we can make some more," he added.
The vice president said both he and Trump view the prospects for a negotiated settlement positively. "The president and I both feel pretty good about the prospects for potentially coming to a negotiated settlement. We're going to keep on working at it," he stressed.
Vance did not provide details on the substance of the conversations, the level at which they were held, or a timeline for further talks. He also did not specify what progress had been achieved or what issues remained outstanding.
The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran. Vance's comments suggest diplomatic channels remain open, though no formal agreement or schedule for further negotiations was announced.
According to Mehr News Agency, Vance made the comments while speaking to reporters near Washington, and said the administration intends to continue working toward a negotiated outcome.
