Iran FM urges US to honor Islamabad MoU commitments

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that the United States must return to its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which it violated, in order to resolve the current situation. He made these remarks after the first day of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Kyrgyzstan.

Araghchi described his meetings and talks at the summit as entirely working sessions, away from usual formalities, with discussions focused on available areas for economic and other forms of cooperation. He noted that the issue of U.S. aggressive attacks and their consequences was also raised during the meetings.

"We stressed that the Iranian nation will continue to stand for its rights, and this was emphasised in all the meetings," Araghchi said. He added that the Islamabad MoU, signed by the presidents of the two countries and violated by America, had come up in every meeting.

"The United States must return to its commitments and abide by the provisions of the memorandum of understanding. After that, we can move out of this situation, because all countries are concerned that the war should end as soon as possible," he said.

Araghchi further explained, "We explained that the solution is completely clear and specific: America must return to its commitments and to the very agreement its president signed. In that case, everything can be put on the right track."

The Islamabad MoU refers to an agreement signed between Iran and the United States, though details of its content were not provided in the report. The remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the two countries.

According to Mehr News Agency, Araghchi's statements were made during the SCO summit, where he engaged in bilateral meetings with other participating officials. The report did not specify which countries were involved in the meetings or the exact date of the summit, but it is part of the regular diplomatic engagements of the Iranian foreign minister.
