SaveIran warns US: bullying and breaking promises have consequences
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued a stern warning to the United States on Wednesday, stating that the era of bullying and broken promises without consequences is over. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ghalibaf wrote, "The United States still hasn't learned that bullying and breaking promises are no longer cost-free. Let me put it plainly: if you strike, you'll get hit." He further cautioned the US against escalating tensions in the region, particularly regarding the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that "the Strait of Hormuz will only open with 'Iranian arrangements', not American threats."
Earlier on Wednesday, Ghalibaf had condemned the United States for what he described as major violations of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries, known as the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This followed renewed US strikes against Iran. In a separate post on X, he listed the US violations, including persistent threats of further strikes, the reinstatement of oil sanctions, attacks on southern Iran, and continued Israeli military action in Lebanon. He stated, "Major MOU Violations by the US. The era of bullying and extortion is over. It leads nowhere. We don't fold."
The Islamabad MOU, signed in 2015, was intended to de-escalate tensions and establish a framework for dialogue between Iran and the US. However, recent US actions, including military strikes and sanctions, have been seen by Iran as a breach of this agreement. Ghalibaf's remarks reflect Tehran's growing frustration with Washington's policies and its determination to respond firmly to any aggression.
According to Mehr News Agency, Ghalibaf's statements underscore Iran's position that it will not tolerate threats or violations of its sovereignty. The warning comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with the US and Israel conducting military operations that Iran views as provocative. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments, remains a flashpoint, with Iran asserting its control over the strait's security.
The report by Mehr News added that Ghalibaf's comments are part of a broader Iranian strategy to project strength and deter further US aggression. The Islamic Republic has consistently maintained that it will defend its interests and respond decisively to any attacks.
