SaveRussia urges US to consider ground realities in Ukraine settlement
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has stated that the US administration should take into account the realities on the ground, where the situation is shifting against Kiev, when considering a settlement of the Ukraine conflict. His remarks came in response to a question about a possible visit to Moscow by US emissaries Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Earlier, a TASS source reported that Witkoff and Kushner intended to travel to Moscow and Kiev on September 5-6. Ryabkov, in an interview with TASS, emphasized that the key question is the extent to which the US administration is prepared to invest in finding a real solution to the current crisis, considering the realities on the ground. He noted that this involves not only the root causes that are constantly discussed but also the situation itself, which is constantly changing and not in Kiev's favor.
Ryabkov further elaborated that the situation, as it unfolded during and after the Anchorage summit, raised numerous questions regarding the extent to which the US side is prepared, in its approach to the set of issues requiring resolution, to remain within the bounds of reason and avoid succumbing to political expediency or the influence of those opposed to a settlement. He added that these questions remain open.
According to the report by Mehr News Agency (MNA), Ryabkov's comments reflect Russia's position that any meaningful negotiation must account for the evolving military and political situation on the ground. The possible visit by Witkoff and Kushner, if it takes place, would mark a significant diplomatic engagement between Washington and Moscow amid the ongoing conflict.
