Iranian MP says US must recognize new order in Strait of Hormuz

Ebrahim Azizi, the head of Iran's Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the United States has no alternative but to recognize the new Iranian order in the Strait of Hormuz. His statement came after US forces conducted airstrikes against coastal bases and civilian facilities in Iran's southern Hormozgan Province and the city of Mahshahr in the early hours of Wednesday.

In response to the US aggression, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced that it had targeted 85 US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait with missiles and drones. The IRGC described the operation as an "initial response" to the US attacks on Iranian territory.

The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital waterway through which about one-fifth of the world's oil passes. Iran has previously threatened to close the strait in response to hostile actions. The latest escalation marks a significant increase in tensions between the two countries.

According to Mehr News Agency, Azizi's remarks underscore Iran's determination to assert its control over the strait. The US has not yet officially responded to the Iranian MP's statement or the IRGC's retaliatory strikes.
