Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Gharibabadi says US has no belief in Human Rights Council

The unveiling ceremony for the annual reports on human rights violations in the United States and the United Kingdom was held on Tuesday with the participation of Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi, several foreign ministry officials, and representatives of the Iranian parliament. The event also honored the memory of martyrs from the 12-day and 40-day wars imposed on the country.

Gharibabadi stated that the reports are being unveiled at a time when the United States continues to violate the human rights of various nations, and the United Kingdom, which claims to be a champion of human rights, has itself committed numerous violations. He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is tasked with preparing and publishing an annual report on human rights violations in the US and UK, and that the reports cover developments from September of last year through the current year, with the US report being more detailed.

The deputy foreign minister emphasized that the US and UK, despite claiming to champion human rights, face widespread violations at home and must be held accountable to the international community and their own citizens. He stated that the United States leads all other nations in the violation of human rights, and that as its human rights-violating behaviors have increased, it has also increasingly evaded accountability.

Gharibabadi pointed to specific human rights violations in the United States, including widespread abuses regarding the rights of prisoners, freedom of expression, discrimination and racism, the treatment of immigrants, and issues of poverty and inequality. He said the US is in no position to make claims about human rights concerning other nations and should first reform itself before lecturing others.

According to Mehr News, the ceremony was attended by foreign ministry officials and parliament representatives, and the reports are part of Iran's annual effort to document human rights violations by the US and UK.
