Iran says US is not a worthy host for the United Nations

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Sunday that the United States is not a worthy host for the United Nations, citing the expulsion of an Iranian diplomat from New York. "There is no honor for the US in loudly proclaiming its breach of commitments. It merely proves that they are not a worthy host for the United Nations," Baghaei said during a press briefing.

Regarding the UN General Assembly, Baghaei noted that a delegation led by President Pezeshkian represented Iran. He described the team as small yet highly productive and influential, and said it was important to seize the opportunity to highlight the injustice Iran has faced. He called it one of the country's most successful appearances in international forums, adding that the meetings held were extremely beneficial and effectively articulated Iran's positions and the logic behind them.

Baghaei said Iran has explicitly expressed its grievances to neighboring countries, a point raised at every opportunity. Discussions were held with officials from all Persian Gulf states on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. He welcomed the release of a number of Iranian compatriots in the UAE, thanking Emirati authorities for freeing these citizens from prison, a matter that had been discussed on the sidelines of the General Assembly. He also warned that the exploitation of regional countries' resources by the Zionist regime to destabilize the region must be a matter of serious concern for those countries, adding that under no circumstances should they allow their resources to be misused by the US and Israeli regime.

On the six-member committee within the Supreme National Security Council, Baghaei stated that it is part of the council and has been responsible for reviewing demands for several months. The foreign minister is one of the members of this committee. Regarding the UK's stance on Iran, Baghaei said the British ambassador was summoned to the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Thursday, and a formal protest was lodged. He described the UK's positions as a diversionary tactic and an attempt to deflect attention. Iran has held, and will continue to hold, the UK internationally accountable for acts of aggression against it, he said, adding that admissions by the NATO Secretary-General regarding the use of bases during these acts substantiate this matter. Therefore, Europe must be held accountable, and these claims are utterly baseless and represent an attempt by the UK to evade its international responsibility regarding Iran.

Baghaei also addressed reports about the return of IAEA inspectors to Iran's nuclear facilities, stating that there has been absolutely no discussion concerning a quid pro quo involving sanctions and the nuclear issue. On the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq, he called it a highly significant and welcome development for the preservation of Iraq's national sovereignty and a defeat for the United States. He said Iran will never forget the atrocities committed at Abu Ghraib prison, and noted that ISIL was one of the products of the occupation of Iraq, as foreign occupation breeds insecurity in nations. He expressed hope that this step leads to the further strengthening of relations between the two countries. According to Mehr News, Baghaei made these remarks during a press briefing on Sunday.
