SaveIran Mission Says US Nuclear Expansion Threatens All Humanity
The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna, Austria, issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the legacy of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The mission wrote that the painful legacy of these bombings is a sharp reminder of the deep human suffering caused by such horrible weapons. It highlighted that the widespread death and destruction, as well as the deadly radiation that harmed even unborn generations, prove that the only absolute guarantee to prevent such a dark tragedy from recurring is the total elimination of all nuclear weapons before they destroy us all.
The statement further criticized the United States, noting that it is the only country that has ever used nuclear weapons and is a Depositary of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). The mission said that the US continues to expand and modernize its nuclear weapon arsenal as part of its 56 years of non-compliance with its nuclear disarmament obligations under that treaty. This, it argued, leaves all of humanity living under a continuous threat.
The message was shared in the context of ongoing international discussions on nuclear disarmament and the commemoration of the atomic bombings. The mission's remarks underscore Iran's longstanding position on the need for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons worldwide.
According to Mehr News Agency, the statement was published on the mission's official X account. The agency did not provide additional context or comments from other parties.
