Iran AEOI condemns US barring of Eslami from IAEA General Conference

Behrouz Kamalvandi, the spokesman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), condemned the United States for preventing the Iranian delegation, led by nuclear chief Mohammad Eslami, from attending the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) annual General Conference in Vienna. In his remarks, Kamalvandi described the US action as "childish," "destructive," and a clear example of "bullying."

Kamalvandi stated that barring the delegation from the General Conference sets a precedent that will affect all members of the IAEA. "That is precisely why we must stand firm against such political pressure and bullying," he said. He further characterized the US administration's move as destructive, adding that it can be interpreted as nothing other than childish behavior.

The AEOI spokesman's comments underscore Iran's opposition to what it views as political interference in the multilateral proceedings of the IAEA. The annual General Conference is a key gathering for the agency's member states to discuss nuclear-related matters and set policy directions. Iran's exclusion from the meeting, according to Kamalvandi, threatens the principle of equal participation for all members.

According to Mehr News, the AEOI official's condemnation reflects Iran's firm stance against such pressure. The report by Mehr News added that Kamalvandi's remarks were made in response to the US decision, which he described as setting a dangerous precedent for the international body.
