Iran UN envoy says US bears full responsibility for aggression consequences

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, has sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the UN Security Council (UNSC) protesting the latest US aggression against Iran, stating that Washington bears "full and unequivocal responsibility for all consequences" arising from its unlawful use of force.

In the letter dated July 8, 2026, Iravani detailed that the United States launched large-scale military attacks against Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity, targeting installations in southern Iran, particularly in Bushehr, as well as several Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf. He described these acts as a flagrant violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter and a material breach of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), under which the US had undertaken to cease all military actions against Iran and refrain from the threat or use of force.

Iravani reported with profound sorrow that eight members of the Iranian Armed Forces lost their lives during the US attacks on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The casualties included Captain Ali Moeini of Shahid Yassini Air Base in Bushehr; First Lieutenant Ali Mahdizadeh, Third Lieutenant Hamed Dourai, Warrant Officer Second Class Amir-Hossein Ghassemi, Warrant Officer Second Class Alireza Zarei Sani, and Warrant Officer Second Class Alireza Balideh of Shahid Abdolkarimi Air Base in Bandar Abbas; along with Naval Warrant Officer Second Class Shahab Omidi Bazi and Seaman Mohammad Javad Ravanfar of the First Naval District of the Navy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The letter condemned the US actions in the strongest terms, calling them heinous crimes and a grave threat to international peace and security. Iravani urged the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council to take immediate, effective, and decisive measures to compel the US to cease its unlawful acts of aggression, prevent further escalation, and ensure full accountability. He criticized the Security Council's inaction, stating that its failure to act has emboldened the US to continue and escalate its unlawful use of force against Iran, undermining the Council's authority and jeopardizing international peace and security.

According to Mehr News, the letter reiterates that the United States bears full and unequivocal responsibility for all consequences arising from its unlawful use of force and the grave threat it poses to international peace and security.
