Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian parliament, issued a stern warning on his social media account following a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea. He stated, "Any attack on Iran always comes with a cost, and this remains true to this day." Azizi emphasized that "the United States and Israel are well aware of this matter," and added that "Ukraine will probably soon realise that Iran will not leave actions against it without a response." He concluded, "The list of those who have miscalculated is still growing."
The warning comes after a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea early Saturday, which resulted in the death of one sailor and injuries to another. The incident has escalated tensions between Iran and Ukraine. Iran's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack, calling it a violation of the UN Charter and an act of aggression that could spread the war. The ministry stressed that Iran would not hesitate to defend its national security under the principle of legitimate defence.
According to Mehr News, the attack has drawn sharp reactions from Iranian officials. The Foreign Ministry's statement underscored that such actions undermine regional stability and violate international law. Iran has reserved the right to respond appropriately to protect its interests and citizens.
The incident adds to the complex geopolitical dynamics involving Iran, Ukraine, and the ongoing conflict in the region. Iran has consistently warned against any aggression and has reiterated its commitment to defending its sovereignty.
