Ukraine intensifies drone strikes on Zaporozhye nuclear plant, Russia says

Ukrainian forces have intensified drone strikes against facilities at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and its satellite city of Energodar, according to Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik. Speaking to TASS, Miroshnik stated that drones targeted workers from the ZNPP repair division in Energodar, killing one employee at the scene and seriously injuring another. He described these employees as core personnel responsible for the safe operation of the reactors.

Later in the week, Ukrainian forces launched a large-scale drone raid against the ZNPP transport division. Miroshnik reported that at least 14 strikes hit the facility, igniting a fire in one of the vehicle bays and severely damaging buildings within the repair area. The strikes aimed to disrupt internal logistics, hinder personnel shift transportation, and destabilize plant operations, he added.

The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, located in southeastern Ukraine, has been under Russian control since March 2022. The plant has been a focal point of concerns over nuclear safety amid the ongoing conflict. According to the report by Mehr News Agency, the Russian official's statements highlight the escalating drone attacks on the facility, raising further alarms about the security of the nuclear site.
