UKMTO reports ship attack in Strait of Hormuz

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported a new ship attack in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday. According to a social media post by the agency, the incident occurred to the north-west of Oman at 8 AM UTC. The master of a tanker reported being struck by an unidentified projectile. The vessel sustained damage to its bridge, but all crew members are reported safe. No environmental damage has been reported at present.

This attack follows a separate incident on Thursday afternoon, when a container ship attempting to exit the Strait of Hormuz via a route close to Oman, unauthorized by Iranian authorities, was also attacked. That earlier attack prompted the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to delay its plans to evacuate 11,000 seafarers from the region until the security situation becomes clearer.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil shipments, and tensions in the region have been high. The UKMTO continues to monitor the situation and advise maritime traffic. According to Mehr News, the details of the attack are still emerging, and investigations are ongoing.
