The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that two tankers exploded in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint. In a statement, the IRGC claimed that the tankers were compelled by the "child-killing American army" to use a passage that the IRGC had declared unsafe and accident-prone.
The IRGC emphasized, "This is our land, and the interference of the terrorist American army from thousands of kilometres away has no legal basis whatsoever and will be dealt with firmly." The statement warned that as long as American "mischief" in the region continues, the waterway will not be safe for the transit of chemical fertiliser or "even a single drop of oil and gas." It further threatened the "aggressor army" to prepare for a punitive operation over the incident.
The Strait of Hormuz has been closed to all shipping since earlier this month, with the IRGC stressing it will remain shut until U.S. interventions end. The incident underscores ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States in the strategic waterway, through which a significant portion of the world's oil passes.
According to Mehr News Agency (MNA), the IRGC's statement did not provide details on the tankers' nationalities or the extent of damage. The report added that the situation remains volatile, with regional and international stakeholders closely monitoring developments.
