Two million Arbaeen pilgrims cross Mehran border crossing

With three days remaining until the Arbaeen anniversary, which marks forty days after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.) in Karbala, nearly two million pilgrims have crossed the Mehran border crossing in Ilam Province to enter Iraq for the Arbaeen pilgrimage, according to local Iranian media.

The Mehran crossing is one of several border points shared with Iraq, but it is the busiest due to its proximity to the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf. A senior Iranian police commander, General Muhammad Sharafi, stated on Thursday that 2.4 million people have registered for the pilgrimage, with over two million having already left the country's borders "in safe and sound condition." Approximately 500,000 pilgrims have also returned to Iran.

General Sharafi emphasized the security situation, saying, "Throughout this period, the commuting of two million pilgrims was carried out without any security problems." The report by Mehr News Agency (MNA) highlighted the scale of the movement and the successful management of the crossing.
