Turkey to Host 2026 NATO Summit

Turkey is set to host the 2026 NATO Summit, according to reports from Anadolu Agency (AA). The summit is expected to focus on defense spending, long-term support for Ukraine, and efforts to strengthen the alliance's defense industrial capacity. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and other officials have indicated that Europe aims to demonstrate its commitment to increasing defense expenditures, with major arms deals anticipated to be announced during the summit.

Haluk Gorgun, head of the Turkish Defense Industries Secretariat, stated, "The Turkish defense industry is ready to be one of the driving forces behind the industrial transformation that NATO requires." He added that Turkey has signed agreements under the 2026 NATO Defense Industry Forum covering several strategic capability areas to be developed jointly by member states. These areas include strike capabilities, integrated air and missile defense systems, space and surveillance capabilities, critical raw materials for the defense industry, and NATO's unmanned aerial vehicle superiority.

The summit will also address ongoing geopolitical challenges, including the war in Ukraine and the need for enhanced deterrence. Turkey's role as a key NATO member with a growing defense industry is expected to be highlighted. According to the report by Mehr News Agency, the summit aims to bolster alliance cohesion and industrial readiness.
