A six-day Reuters/Ipsos poll has found that 32 percent of Americans approve of President Donald Trump's job performance, unchanged from a September survey that recorded the lowest rating of his political career. The poll was reported by Mehr News, citing Reuters.
The survey indicated that support for Trump has declined in recent months as Americans contend with high inflation, which the report linked to his decision to go to war against Iran. Hispanic voters, who helped propel Trump to victory in the 2024 presidential contest when he won nearly half of the Hispanic vote compared with roughly one-third in the 2020 election, now show markedly lower approval. Just 24 percent of Hispanic Americans approve of Trump's performance in the White House, the lowest share in either of his two presidential terms.
The poll offered multiple signs that Trump's low popularity is weighing on his Republican Party. Registered voters said they preferred Democrats to Republicans by 44 percent to 37 percent, less than a month before the November 3 election. Among independents, Democrats led 37 percent to 21 percent, with 28 percent of independent registered voters still undecided, according to Reuters. Only 26 percent of Hispanic registered voters said they plan to vote Republican in the contest, which will determine control of both chambers of Congress during the last two years of Trump's current term.
The findings suggest that the president's standing among key demographic groups and the broader electorate could shape the outcome of the upcoming congressional elections. The report by Mehr News, citing Reuters, added that the poll reflects continued erosion of support among Hispanic voters and a widening advantage for Democrats among registered voters and independents.
