Police forces in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province repelled an armed attack that followed an explosion near a county police command headquarters, according to the provincial police information centre.
The information centre said an explosion occurred along the exit route of two police units from the county police command headquarters in Golshan. After the blast, armed individuals opened fire, and police forces responded forcefully, the centre stated.
According to the announcement, one of the attackers was killed in the exchange and a number of other armed elements were wounded. The area remains under the monitoring and surveillance of security and police forces, and efforts to identify and deal with other elements involved in the incident are continuing.
The statement did not provide further details on the identity of the attackers, the number of wounded, or the exact timing of the incident. No group immediately claimed responsibility.
Sistan and Baluchestan, which borders Pakistan and Afghanistan, has seen repeated security incidents in recent years involving armed groups and security forces. Iranian authorities routinely describe such incidents as terrorist acts and say security operations against armed elements in the province are ongoing.
According to Mehr News, the provincial police information centre said the situation in the area is being monitored and that measures to pursue other individuals linked to the attack continue.
