Iran, Tajikistan Agree to Boost Energy Cooperation

Iran and Tajikistan have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector, including the construction of a large hydroelectric power plant in Tajikistan by Iranian firms.

Iran, Tajikistan Agree to Boost Energy Cooperation

Mehdi Heidari, Head of the Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran (OIETAI) and Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, met with Tajikistan's Minister of Finance, Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Development Bank Summit. During the meeting, Heidari thanked Tajikistan for its support during the US and Israeli war of aggression against Iran and emphasized the expansion of economic and energy cooperation between the two countries. He also promised to take effective steps to resolve economic problems facing Iranian entrepreneurs in Tajikistan.

In response, Qahhorzoda noted that 160 Iranian companies are currently active in Tajikistan and stated that competent Iranian firms will undertake the construction of a large hydroelectric power plant in the country. He also referred to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between Tehran and Dushanbe during the recent visit of Iranian President Pezeshkian to Tajikistan, expressing confidence that existing issues would be resolved in the near future.

The two sides exchanged views on cooperation in agriculture, banking, healthcare, hydroelectric energy generation, and other fields. According to Mehr News, the meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to enhance bilateral ties, particularly in the energy sector.
