Iran-US Talks for Final Agreement Yet to Begin: Gharibabadi

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi, who is leading a delegation to Qatar, stated that negotiations for a final agreement with the United States have not yet commenced. He made the remarks during a meeting in Doha, which was also attended by Iran’s Ambassador to Qatar Ali Salehabadi and Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Affairs Hamid Ghanbari.

Gharibabadi explained that working groups have been formed to follow up on the implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) and to negotiate a final agreement, but negotiations in these formats have not yet begun. The meeting focused on exchanging views on issues of common interest, including the process of implementing the MoU aimed at ending the imposed war against Iran, as well as challenges and obstacles in its implementation.

Discussions also covered strategies to accelerate the implementation of the MoU, particularly with regard to Lebanon, remove existing obstacles, and expand bilateral cooperation in areas of common concern. The MoU, signed earlier, outlines steps toward resolving disputes and normalizing relations.

According to Mehr News Agency, the Iranian delegation's visit to Qatar underscores ongoing diplomatic efforts to address bilateral and regional issues. The talks are part of broader attempts to reach a comprehensive agreement between Iran and the United States, though the timeline for formal negotiations remains unclear.
