Strait of Hormuz traffic drops to multi-week low

Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has slowed to a multi-week low, with only six ships crossing the strategic waterway on Sunday, according to data from Kpler, a commodity tracking firm.

The vessels included the Very Large Crude Carrier Humanity, transporting two million barrels of Iranian oil, and the Capetan Andreas, carrying 500,000 barrels of Kuwaiti petroleum products. Three empty tankers also entered the Persian Gulf to load oil, the data showed.

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump stated that the waterway was open to commercial vessels. However, Iran had earlier declared that it had shut the strait after a ship attempted to pass using an unapproved route. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that the Strait of Hormuz will only reopen when American interventions cease.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, with about one-fifth of the world's petroleum passing through it. The recent tensions have raised concerns about potential disruptions to oil supplies.

According to Mehr News Agency (MNA), the report by Kpler highlighted the reduced traffic, reflecting the ongoing standoff between Iran and the United States over navigation rights in the region.
