Velayati: Strait of Hormuz is real guarantor of any nuclear deal

Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated that the Strait of Hormuz is the real guarantor of any nuclear deal, emphasizing that geography, not signatures, provides the ultimate guarantee. In a post on social media platform X, Velayati wrote, "The red line of Iran is clear. This time, papers and signatures are not guarantees. Geography does not lie, and it is the final judge of any written treaty."

Velayati further asserted that all invaders, from Alexander the Great to Genghis Khan to former U.S. President Donald Trump, had been "digested" by Iran's civilization. He added, "Nationhood cannot be bought with petrodollars," highlighting the resilience of Iranian identity against foreign influence.

The comments come amid ongoing discussions about Iran's nuclear program and potential negotiations with the United States. The Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which about 20% of the world's oil passes, has been a focal point of tensions between Iran and Western powers. Iran has previously threatened to close the strait in response to sanctions or military action.

Velayati's remarks underscore Iran's position that any agreement must be backed by tangible geographic and strategic realities, rather than relying solely on diplomatic assurances. According to Mehr News, the statement reflects the view that Iran's geographical position provides a natural deterrent against violations of any future deal.
