Strait of Hormuz Belongs to Iran and Oman, Not US: Advisor to Leader

Mohsen Rezaei, a former chief commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during the eight years of the Sacred Defense (the Iraqi-imposed war against Iran from 1980 to 1988) and currently an advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has commented on the latest situation of the Strait of Hormuz. He reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz has no connection with the United States, as the strait belongs to the two countries of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, located in their territorial waters.

Rezaei noted that the whole world uses the Strait of Hormuz, but questioned whether European countries are willing to let the US intervene alone in the fate of the strait. He stressed that no country is willing to let the US interfere in the strait.

He further explained that the Strait of Hormuz is different from all other straits in the world because it is the entrance to a gulf. The entrance to a gulf is distinct from straits that lie between oceans and seas, through which everyone passes. He added, "What does the US want? To enter the Persian Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz? Therefore, we are suspicious of the US government, because Iran has been and is at war with the United States."

According to Mehr News Agency, these remarks were made in the context of ongoing tensions in the region and the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world's oil passes. The strait has been a focal point of international attention due to US-Iran tensions and military posturing.
