Iran's SNSC denies military retaliation over aviation bans, says talks ongoing

Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretariat issued a statement on Wednesday addressing what it described as misleading interpretations and inaccurate reports regarding the council's remarks on air transport. According to the statement, these reports had raised questions and created ambiguities, prompting the Secretariat to clarify its position.

The Secretariat denied the claim that Iran intends to resort to military retaliation in response to recent air transport restrictions. It stated that talks between Iran and the relevant countries to lift certain illegally imposed air transport restrictions are being followed up on seriously.

The statement further noted that various non-military countermeasures are available that could be employed regarding specific airports if necessary, though it expressed hope that the situation would not reach that point. The SNSC did not specify which countries or airports were involved.

The clarification comes amid heightened attention on Iran's aviation sector and international travel restrictions. The SNSC's remarks were initially interpreted by some media outlets as suggesting a possible military response, leading to the Secretariat's denial.

According to Mehr News, the SNSC Secretariat emphasized that diplomatic efforts remain the primary path and that no military action is planned at this stage.
