Iranian and Russian deputy foreign ministers meet in Moscow to discuss bilateral ties and regional issues

Saeed Khatibzadeh, head of the Center for Political and International Studies at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, held talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in Moscow on Wednesday, according to Mehr News. The two diplomats exchanged views on issues of mutual interest and on Moscow-Tehran cooperation in international arenas, including the current situation in West Asia.

The discussions took place amid escalating tensions over what the report described as US-Israeli aggression across the region. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry's website, the meeting was held in a friendly, constructive, and trust-based atmosphere, aimed at boosting ties within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Treaty.

Iran and Russia are strategic allies and have held consultations on numerous issues, particularly since the Comprehensive Strategic Treaty was signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in January 2025. The document entered into force in October of the same year.
