Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Yahya Saree said on Sunday that the Saudi air force carried out 56 air and missile attacks on Yemen over the past 24 hours, according to a statement carried by Mehr News.
Saree said the strikes targeted civilian sites in the provinces of Hajjah, Lahj, Amran, Saada, Al-Jawf, Taiz and Ibb. According to his account, the air raids were carried out by F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets that took off from the Khamis Mushait and Taif air bases, while missile attacks were launched from the Najran area.
Saree said the total number of attacks by what he described as the aggressor Saudi-led coalition since the escalation began has reached 3,179, including both air and missile strikes. The figure covers the period since the current round of escalation started, according to the statement.
The statement did not provide details on casualties or the extent of damage at the targeted sites. There was no immediate independent confirmation of the figures, and the Saudi-led coalition has not issued a response to Saree's remarks.
Yemen has been the site of a prolonged conflict involving the Saudi-led coalition and the Yemeni Armed Forces aligned with the Houthi movement. Taiz, one of the provinces named in the statement, has seen repeated fighting during the war. The other provinces cited — Hajjah, Lahj, Amran, Saada, Al-Jawf and Ibb — are spread across northern and central Yemen.
Saree's statement is the latest in a series of periodic announcements by the Yemeni Armed Forces on the pace of coalition operations. Such statements typically provide the group's own count of strikes and are not independently verified.
According to Mehr News, Saree said the 56 attacks in the past 24 hours included both air and missile strikes, and that the cumulative total since the escalation began now stands at 3,179.
