Scott Ritter warns of US economic collapse and NATO vulnerabilities in joint X Space

Former UN weapons inspector and US Marine intelligence officer Scott Ritter warned of an impending structural collapse within the American economic system, driven by reckless foreign policies and soaring energy costs, during a joint X Space hosted by Tehran Times and Sputnik. He also criticized Western war narratives and highlighted military vulnerabilities across the United States and NATO.

Ritter said that former President Donald Trump's decision to oppose Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure stems from economic pressure, as rising oil and diesel prices threaten the US economy and the upcoming midterm elections. He noted that Russia's halt on diesel exports led to a global shortage, pushing US diesel prices above $6 per gallon. Ritter argued that US policymakers believed Ukrainian drone strikes would collapse Russia's economy and trigger regime change, but Russia's retaliatory actions exposed these claims as false. He added that Ukraine is bankrupt and that seizing frozen Russian assets would harm Europe's economy.

Regarding Venezuela, Ritter dismissed claims of a US-Venezuela oil contract as untrue, stating that Venezuelan oil fields require extensive and costly restoration. He said the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve is exhausted, and Saudi Arabia's oil production is threatened by attacks from Houthi forces and Iraqi militias. Ritter predicted a major economic crisis around January, citing record budget deficits and rising bond yields, and noted China's efforts to establish pro-Yuan trade agreements with Gulf Arab nations as a challenge to the petrodollar.

On NATO, Ritter rejected Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski's claim that NATO could easily defeat Russia in a conventional war. He said NATO lacks air superiority, as it would face disabled command and control from Russian electronic warfare on day one. He pointed to NATO's failed operations against Iran, Germany's inability to deploy 80% of its aircraft, and the poor condition of F-16s sent to Ukraine. Ritter also said NATO nations have zero national air defense capacity and that Russia could destroy European skies with drones alone. He mentioned Russia's deployment of Iskander-1000 missiles and advanced cruise missiles after the US withdrew from the INF Treaty, giving Russia escalatory dominance without nuclear weapons.

Finally, Ritter questioned the authenticity of a 60 Minutes interview with a US pilot rescued after being targeted by Iranian air defenses, suggesting it may be a scripted narrative to counter a US conventional defeat by Iran. He said US forces were out-maneuvered and beaten in conventional engagement, and the Department of Defense collaborated with 60 Minutes to present a hero narrative.
