Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, told the Financial Times that the region is seeking a new security framework with Iran. He confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz will not close again, and highlighted the importance of a direct communication channel between Washington and Tehran, agreed during the Bürgenstock talks in Switzerland, to prevent obstacles to reopening and counter disinformation during demining operations.
Qatar Energy will maintain its state of emergency until safe operations are guaranteed. The Qatari premier noted that the Swiss negotiations set the stage for talks toward a permanent agreement, though the process remains in early stages. Any model for managing the Strait of Hormuz must involve discussions with Iran, Oman, and Persian Gulf states.
On Israel, he warned that it is overreacting to conflicts instead of de-escalating. He mentioned a mechanism now exists to prevent flare-ups in Lebanon, including ceasefire verification and coordination between Beirut, Washington, Tehran, and mediators. According to Mehr News Agency, the regional goal is to create a new security framework between regional countries and Iran.
