SaveIran FM: US must rebuild trust, pressure won't work
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said in a social media post on Tuesday that diplomacy with the United States is possible, but Washington must first understand that pressure does not work and must rebuild trust.
Araghchi made the remarks after talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, describing their discussions as "creative." He then turned his focus to relations with the United States.
"Putting diplomacy back on track isn't impossible. It hinges on U.S. understanding of one simple fact: pressure doesn't work," Araghchi wrote. He added that to make progress, Washington needs to "build trust, speak respectfully, acknowledge our rights, and uphold commitments."
The comments come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States over various issues, including the nuclear program and regional policies. The Qatari official's visit to Tehran is seen as part of efforts to mediate between the two countries.
According to Mehr News Agency, Araghchi's remarks were posted on his social media account following the meeting with the Qatari FM. The report did not provide further details on the content of the talks.
