Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian departed Tehran for New York on Sunday to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to Mehr News. He was seen off at the airport by First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref, Hojjatoleslam Mohsen Qomi, Deputy for International Relations at the Office of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and a number of his cabinet members.
During the visit, President Pezeshkian is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly and hold high-profile talks with leaders of several countries attending the session. He will also meet with influential political and cultural groups and figures, the report said.
The 81st session of the UN General Assembly is being held under the theme "Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All." The high-level general debate is scheduled for September 22–26 and September 28 in New York, bringing together world leaders to discuss major international challenges.
The session's agenda also includes high-level meetings on climate action, development, sea-level rise, pandemic preparedness and other global issues. According to Mehr News, the visit reflects Iran's continued engagement with the United Nations and its participation in multilateral discussions on international affairs.
