PGSA warns ships against using invalid Strait of Hormuz routes

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) issued a statement on Monday warning that some charterers are forcing vessels to transit through invalid routes in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the statement, reports had been received indicating that certain charterers were compelling ships to use routes that do not comply with established regulations.

The PGSA said this action creates the possibility of financial and human losses for the vessel, its owner, captain and crew. It added that such practices would also seriously restrict the vessel's future passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The authority called on shipowners to exercise the necessary caution regarding what it described as illegal actions by some charterers.

The statement further warned that if charterers are found to be in violation, their companies will be added to the non-compliance list (NCL). Once placed on that list, the passage of all vessels belonging to those companies through the Strait of Hormuz will face restrictions.

The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital waterway through which a significant portion of global oil shipments passes. The PGSA's warning underscores ongoing concerns about maritime traffic and compliance with navigation rules in the region.
