SavePersian Gulf authority says it acted against more than 40 violating vessels
The Persian Gulf Strategic Authority (PGSA) said it has dealt with more than 40 violating vessels in the waterway, according to a message issued by the authority detailing the status of its vessel non-compliance list.
The authority said 122 vessels have been added to the list so far. It added that 19 vessels are currently negotiating to avoid being placed on the list or to be removed from it, while two vessels have accepted removal by fulfilling their obligations.
According to the PGSA, about 30 vessels will be added to the list if they fail to respond after receiving warnings. The authority also said it will provide assistance for removal from the list if vessels voluntarily follow up on their violations.
The statement did not specify the nationalities of the vessels involved, the nature of the violations, or the timeframe over which the actions were taken. The PGSA oversees maritime matters in the Persian Gulf, a waterway that includes the Strait of Hormuz, a route central to regional and global shipping.
The Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported the authority's message on the status of its non-compliance list.
