SaveStrait of Hormuz passage suspended due to US military movements: PGSA
The Persian Gulf Strategic Authority (PGSA) announced on Sunday that passage through the Strait of Hormuz is currently not possible due to recent illegal movements of United States military forces in the region.
In a post on its X account, the authority stated, "We hereby inform all esteemed applicants: Due to the recent illegal movements of the United States’ military forces in the region, passage through the Strait of Hormuz is currently not possible." The statement added, "As soon as the stability and calm are restored, all requests will be reviewed based on the schedule and the necessary permits will be issued."
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, with about one-fifth of the world's petroleum passing through it. The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with US military presence in the region often a point of contention.
The PGSA did not specify the exact nature of the US movements or how long the suspension would last. The authority urged applicants to wait for further updates once stability is restored.
According to Mehr News Agency, the announcement was made via the authority's official social media account, and no further details were provided at the time of reporting.
