Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi travels to Tehran for bilateral talks

Pakistani Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi traveled to Tehran on Saturday for talks aimed at expanding bilateral relations and coordinating on matters of mutual interest, according to an informed source. The visit is part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between the two neighboring countries.

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, in a televised interview, responded to a question about the objectives of the Pakistani interior minister's visit and speculation that he might be conveying a specific message or plan from the United States. Baghaei said, "We have very good and growing relations with the neighboring country, Pakistan, and especially in the last few months, these relations have improved in all areas." He added that the main goals of the visit are to follow up on previous understandings inked between the two countries, particularly decisions reached at the leadership level. "It is natural for Pakistan—having played a mediating role—to seize the opportunity to raise regional issues," Baghaei said, noting that "there is no indication so far that he is carrying a specific message or proposal from the United States."

Naqvi has traveled to Tehran several times since Pakistan began its mediation efforts between Iran and the United States. During his recent visit, he met and held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Major General Mohsen Rezaei, Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual concern and advancing the understandings previously reached between the two governments. The visit underscores the continuing diplomatic exchanges between Iran and Pakistan, with Pakistan playing a role in regional mediation efforts. According to Mehr News, the visit is part of a series of engagements aimed at enhancing bilateral ties and addressing regional issues.
