Pakistani interior minister meets President Pezeshkian in Mashhad

Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad on Saturday afternoon. The meeting was part of Naqvi's ongoing visit to Iran, which follows the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tehran and Washington. Prior to meeting President Pezeshkian, the Pakistani delegation held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Naqvi arrived in Mashhad earlier on Saturday and was officially welcomed by Governor of Khorasan Razavi province Gholamhossein Mozaffari at Shahid Hasheminejad International Airport. This marks Naqvi's several trips to Tehran in recent weeks to discuss the Iran-US negotiations.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Baghaei confirmed that Naqvi's trip is a direct continuation of Islamabad's ongoing mediation and diplomatic initiatives regarding the Iran-US dialogue. According to Baghaei, Naqvi is scheduled to hold separate meetings and consultations with his Iranian counterpart, Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, as well as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during his official visit.

The Islamabad MoU, signed on Wednesday by the presidents of Iran and the United States, is a key focus of Pakistan's mediating role. The agreement is seen as a step toward resolving tensions between Iran and the US, particularly regarding issues such as the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional security. According to Mehr News, the Pakistani interior minister's visit underscores Islamabad's commitment to facilitating dialogue between the two nations.
