Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that Pakistan will send a delegation to attend the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. Speaking at the open session of the National Assembly in Islamabad, Sharif stated that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had extended an invitation for the funeral ceremony.
"Iran is not only a friendly country but our brotherly nation and neighbor. Undoubtedly, a Pakistani delegation will attend the funeral ceremony of the martyred leader of Iran's Islamic Revolution between July 3 and 4," Sharif said.
The funeral arrangements include public farewell ceremonies scheduled for July 4-5 at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla. A funeral procession will be held in Tehran on July 6, followed by a second procession on July 7 in the holy city of Qom.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who served as the Supreme Leader of Iran since 1989, passed away recently. His death has drawn condolences from leaders around the world, including Pakistan, which shares close ties with Iran.
According to Mehr News, the Pakistani delegation's participation underscores the strong bilateral relations between the two countries. The report added that the invitation from President Pezeshkian reflects the importance Iran places on its relationship with Pakistan.
