SaveIran: No Decision Yet on Resuming Talks with US
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has stated that no decision has been made so far regarding the resumption of talks with the United States. His remarks came amid ongoing tensions and indirect exchanges through mediators.
Araghchi referred to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which had provided for an "end to the war." However, he noted that the United States had violated the agreement, leading to a resumption of fighting. "We did not have a ceasefire to extend; we had an end to the war, which has now entered a new situation," he explained.
He confirmed that Qatar and Pakistan, acting as mediators, have been exchanging messages and remain in contact with Tehran. Nevertheless, Araghchi emphasized, "this does not at all constitute negotiations. No decision has yet been taken to resume talks with America."
On a separate matter, Araghchi addressed the Iran-Oman talks concerning the Strait of Hormuz. He described these discussions as a technical matter focused on defining maritime routes for vessel traffic in the waterway. "The routes that previously existed no longer work, and a new route must be defined. We are currently designing a temporary route, which will later become the final one," he said.
Specialists from both countries, along with the armed forces as the main authorities on the issue, are involved in these technical talks. Araghchi expressed hope that a result could be achieved soon.
He stressed that the technical talks on defining the route are separate from any decision to reopen the strait. "Whether the Strait of Hormuz reopens or not depends on the fulfilment of other conditions to which America must adhere," he added.
According to Mehr News Agency, these statements were made by Araghchi, providing an update on Iran's diplomatic stance regarding the US and the ongoing technical discussions with Oman.
