Nikol Pashinyan reappointed as Armenia's prime minister

Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan has signed a decree reappointing Nikol Pashinyan as the country's prime minister, according to a statement published on the presidency's website on Sunday. The appointment was made in accordance with Article 149 of Armenia's constitution.

Pashinyan's Civil Contract party secured a parliamentary majority in the June elections, paving the way for him to continue as head of government. Under Armenia's constitution, the previous government resigns after the first sitting of a newly elected National Assembly but continues to serve in a caretaker capacity until a new cabinet is formed.

The decree formalizes Pashinyan's reappointment, allowing him to form a new government. The move comes after the June 20 snap parliamentary elections, in which Pashinyan's party won 53.9% of the vote, securing 71 out of 107 seats in the National Assembly.

According to Mehr News Agency, the presidential decree was published on the presidency's official website, confirming the reappointment. The report added that the appointment follows the constitutional procedure, and Pashinyan is expected to present his new cabinet for approval in the coming days.
