Nechirvan Barzani, the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, traveled to Tehran to attend the funeral of a martyred leader. During his visit, he met and held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday. Barzani and his accompanying Kurdish delegation also met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that high-ranking delegations from around the world would attend the funeral. He noted that at least eight heads of state (presidents or prime ministers) and parliament speakers from 12 countries were present. A large number of countries participated at the level of foreign ministers, other ministers, or special representatives.
Additionally, the foreign ministers of Afghanistan and Nicaragua, who traveled to Tehran for the ceremony, also met with Araghchi on the same day. According to Mehr News, the meetings underscore the broad international participation in the funeral event.
